In 1990, BMW finally did its homework and brought back a worthy four cylinder of its name, the
318i

.
The new engine is a four-valve-per cylinder with 134 horsepower (brochure) or 136 hp (intro sheet).
The car is available in a two-door (
318is
) or four-door (
318i
) configuration.
It was strictly a 5-speed manual.

318is
, being the sports coupe, had
a the

Rear and front spoilers

Wide cross-spoke alloy wheels and radial tires

Black-satin treatment of the chrome trim

Body-color outsider mirrors
The
318i
and
318is
were both very popular cars as they represented the entry-level BMW, which still had great performance, similar to the 2002 in its days.
BMW often refers to the legendary 2002 in the brochure.
